Abbeyleix Tennis Club
Abbeyleix Tennis Club is situated in the heart of Abbeyleix town just off the N8 in the 12 acre area that is Fr. Breen
Park.
The club is very active and boasts over 250 members of all ages. The club celebrated its Centenary Year in 2009 with a full range of events which culminated in the publishing of its Centenary Book “It started In Jelly’s Pit – 100 Years of tennis in Abbeyleix”. Copies of the book are available for sales in local shops and in tennis Club.
The club itself has 4 synthetic grass floodlight courts and one tarmac court and practice area. It has its own changing areas, reception room, and kitchen, meeting room, sports room and balcony. Abbeyleix Tennis Club caters for all ages with numerous competitions and club days/nights being held
throughout the year from the Juveniles’ on Saturday mornings, Juniors on Friday nights, to adults Monday & Wednesday nights. The club competes in Laois league, Midland league, Leinster Interprovincial Towns Cup, as well as a host of Open events in local clubs and enjoys regular success.
The club hosts its own Open week in September and organises a full calendar of events throughout the year. Various fundraising events are held to support the upkeep of the club.
