Abbeyleix has long been a business service centre for a Wider local area. While Portlaoise, Carlow and Kilkenny would long provided competition to the businesses it has always held it’s own. In this age Where we are forced to consider our impact on the environment we in ABC are seeing this as an opportunity to encourage local people to “Shop local”. Since the opening of the M7/M8 in May 2010 some businesses are reporting an increase in turnover.

Over the years Abbeyleix has established a reputation as a centre of excellenee for food. ABC are hugely supportive of this aspiration and see this as a unique selling point.

* ABC encourages the growth of Abbeyeyleix Farmers Market . Promote Abbeyleix as a centre of excellence for food
* ABC are Working to encourage businesses to take­up vacant space in local town centre commercial property
* ABC encourage all local businesses to list on Abbeyleix.ie and look to using the internet as a way to increase business activity within the local community and beyond.
* ABC encourage the hospitality businesses and sports and leisure clubs to collaborate to sell ‘Packages’ for visitors (Golf and Good Food, Genealogy Weekends, Cycling & Walking stays etc.)
