ABC (Community Dev)
Abbeyleix has long held a good trakrecord for community activities. There have long been a solid cohort of local people who have worked tirelessly in community initiatives. We in ABC are proud to support this tradition into the new millennium.
Here are an example of some recent community initiative in Abbeyleix.
* A Bronze Medal in the National Tidy Towns awards 2010
* The establishment of a Youth Café in the combined sports pavilion in Father Breen Park by the Park Development Committee.
* The Park Development Committee has a continuous improvement programme in the combined sports facilities
* The community part-funded Scoil Mhuire Sports Hall.
* The establishment of a crèche in the Abbeyleix Parish Hall in Fr. Breen Park which now employs 11 staff.
* Abbeyleix Bog Project is a significant community-driven initiative that saw local stakeholders challenge the imminent harvesting of peat which resulted in a 500 acre ecologically diverse amenity area being handed over to the community.
