Abbeyleix boasts a unique architectural heritage. As a planned Victorian town it has a unique streetscape and a significant number of wonderful public, commercial and residential buildings. Thankfully, we still have the main structure of the planned town and its many fine examples cf distinctive architectural heritage practically intact. ABC are keen to promote the wonderful assets that we have and to develop Abbeyleix as a tourist hub in the midlands region. We have seen a reduction in trafñc volume as a consequence of the recent opening of the M7/M8 and we now enjoy an improved environment to enhance the offer to the Irish and international tourist.

ABC are pursuing a number of initiatives that will add to the tourist experience while visiting Abbeyleix including;

* Abbeyleix.ie has been launched as a tourist resourc.

* Set up a WiFi network in town centre.

* Additional signage and tourist information panels

* Development of a Walking & Cycling Network

* Develop the potential for Eco-tourism in Abbeyleix Bog

* Develop a Genealogy Centre

* Develop a collaboration model for selling tourist packages

* Promote Abbeyleix as a central venue for business meetings
