­ABC Energy & Environment policy is intended to develop strategies to reduce our impact on the environment. There are a number of initiatives planned to achieve greater awareness within the community and seek ways to promote a local energy strategy. This initiative can maintain and promote change in farming practice to develop a local sustainable green energy market;

* Promote an increased awareness of energy use in the home throughan educational prograinine run in the local schools. Make the children junior Energy Assessors for existing housing stock.
* Promote Abbeyleix as a test centre for understanding existing energy use patterns and to trial cutting-edge energy efiioienoy technologies for Wider applications
* Educate local enterprises to take advantage of new energy efficient technologies and to consider the possibilities of sourcing energy in the locality.
* Educate the local farming sector regarding the potential diversifiction to include energy crops such as short rotation willow and miscanthus and help supply local energy markets.
* Develop a oo-ordinated approach to the management of local energy initiatives by engaging with all stakeholders including state agencies, ABC Business Network and Irish Farmers Association.
